Self-rescue – Durham

As Charlotte Hollings says: There are only TWO types of scullers – 1. Those that have fallen in and 2. Those who are going to fall in. Watch this short video – Sculling Videos – How to … Self Rescue – Durham. With thanks to Keith Dover for the filming and edit, and to Bafta nominated Gary (‘Skippy’) McCarthy for his portrayal of the hapless sculler.

By the way Charlotte is one of the best communicators on sculling. See her current series, Self-coaching for scullers – google www.row2k.com

Here’s a couple of links to videos for those of you currently self coaching or continuing to develop your single sculling skills.

During the first lockdown Mark Wilkinson and James Loveday gave a great British Rowing Lockdown Webinar on Front-end Sculling (it’s not just about the Catch, but dealing skilfully with the change of direction). For a few slides explaining the key concepts and skills:

Front-end sculling

A few weeks ago our own Vickie and Becky Jackson tried out the Five ‘Go To’ Front-end Drills, during a training session.

And now – highlights from Ryan Demaine, (Head Coach at Headington School) from his two recent British Rowing Webinars on The Finish. I’ve imaginatively called it Back-end Sculling with the key points for the Late Drive; Release, Hands away, and Rock-over, with recommended drills.
